William Engelen, String Quartet n.3

Dates :
  • Sunday 06 November 2022
Place : November Music Festival, Den Bosch (NL)

United Instruments of Lucilin is associated artist of the 2022 edition of November Music. The ensemble will present 4 exclusive concerts during the 2 weekends of the festival, thus giving an overview of its versatility and wide repertoire.

During the first weekend, Lucilin focuses on the work of Dutch sound artist William Engelen. William Engelen (1964), who operates from Berlin, makes installations and compositions at the lively intersection of visual art and music. The boundaries of image and sound are stretched to the limit by Engelen, always looking for new possibilities of expression. Engelen searches for unusual notation methods, such as sculptures, complete installations with objects and folded books on music stands.

During the MuziekRoute on Sunday, November 6, members of United Instruments of Lucilin will play his String Quartet No. 3, which the ensemble premiered in 2016. The performance takes place in the upper space of Theater Artemis. The four quartet members follow a graphic score that consists of a whole series of graphic symbols. The music that sounds is inspired by the sound of textures, such as the sound of machines, paper, the clicking of tongues and rubbed glass. William Engelen will introduce his work on both Saturday and Sunday.
