The Dark – Festival 33,7

Inspired by the myth of Eurydice and Orpheus, the plot continues the emotional exchange between the main female character – a contemporary Eurydice with many faces – and fictional characters – the musicians – who “live” in the dark, far from light and human beings. Each fictional character is the bearer of a character trait: jealousy, temptation, revenge… In The Dark, visual effects are reduced to focus the viewer’s attention on the sought-after sounds and the dramaturgy of the timbres. The
use of unusual objects as instruments (shell bracelets, rice bottles, etc.) contributes to the composer’s approach to sound research. The opera was presented for the first time in 2016 and filmed in the Casemates du Bock in Luxembourg, an unusual place that offers a supernatural setting with very little natural light.
