The Carmen Case

Place : Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg

Director Alexandra Lacroix, patron of TalentLAB 2021, returns to the Grand Théâtre with The Carmen Case, an opera that offers a fresh perspective on Bizet’s French masterpiece Carmen. A feminicide has taken place, and the facts have been confessed by former companion Don José. The situation is set in a courtroom during a criminal trial. A trial of the kind all too often replayed today. Placed in the place of the jurors, the spectators vibrate to the rhythm of the reminiscences of the original work as well as the twists and turns of the trial, dissecting all the stages leading up to Carmen’s murder. An innovative opera in which Bizet’s arias and Diana Soh’s new compositions, performed by United Instruments of Lucilin under the direction of Lucy Leguay, communicate across space and time.
