Niki – A portrait of Niki de Saint Phalle.

Dates :
  • Saturday 20 March 2027
Place : Théâtre des Capucins

As part of Samedis aux Théâtres, a monthly series extending the programme of the Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg through moments of exchange and reflection, the cycle conceived by composer Albena Petrovic continues in March 2027 with a second portrait of a woman. Following Queen of the Air, dedicated to Amelia Earhart, this new operatic work explores the powerful world of artist Niki de Saint Phalle.

Created by composer Albena Petrovic and author Nathalie Ronvaux, who wrote the libretto, together with the musicians of United Instruments of Lucilin, the work is part of a series portraying women who have left their mark on the collective imagination through their boldness and freedom. Co-commissioned by the Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and United Instruments of Lucilin, and presented in the wake of International Women’s Day, this new creation uses contemporary opera to explore the place of women in history, society and artistic creation.

In doing so, it reflects the spirit of Samedis aux Théâtres: offering a powerful artistic experience while creating a space for dialogue and reflection around some of the key issues of our time.
