The popularity of true crime is not a new phenomenon, shows this 1927 Portuguese film. The atmospheric contrasts and clever editing of this gripping crime drama by Reinaldo Ferreira are supported by a new score by Igor C Silva. The composer gives ensemble Lucilin plenty of room for improvisation and himself takes on the electric guitar, synthesizer and electronic effects. A journalist by trade, director Ferreira was the Truman Capote of his day, as popular as he was criticized for his speculative crime reporting. When a well-known stage actress was found strangled in the street, however, the police investigation confirmed his hypothesis about the identity of the perpetrator. He translated the suspense that his high-profile articles managed to evoke into film in a stylish murder mystery. Music and concept Igor Silva   With: André Pons-Valdès, Winnie Cheng, violin.
