Composition Summer School

The Composition Summer School is an initiative launched by two Luxembourg-based composers, Marcel Reuter and Evangelia Rigaki. This was the first composition Masterclass organized in Luxembourg ; a great opportunity for composers to work on their pieces directly with the musicians, their peers and receive feedback from the lecturers.
The Centre Culturel de Rencontres Neimënster, which is the exchange place par excellence of Luxembourg, has been the partner of the project. LUCILIN already had the chance to enjoy a similar project at Trinity College University of Dublin with Evangelia Rigaki, and responded gladly to the invitation they received.
After receiving a large number of impressive applications from around the world, 13 composers have been selected to come to Luxembourg with their brand new compositions, written especially for the occasion.
From June 29th to July 3rd, the students have worked on these pieces with the musicians, interspersed with one-to-one sessions with Marcel Reuter and Evangelia Rigaki and attended special workshops on writing for the instruments.
At the end of the week, Lucilin presented these 13 different pieces during a final concert in neimënster on July 2nd.

Marcel Reuter
Marcel Reuter (Luxembourg *1973) is a composer and pianist who focuses on chamber music, a genre that reflects his idea of music as an intimate medium of communication.
His works have been performed at some major music festivals (Salzburger Festspiele, Wien modern, Aspekte Salzburg, Klangspuren Schwaz, Gaudeamus, Ars musica) as well as in Berlin (Konzerthaus, Deutsche Oper), Buenos Aires, Hongkong, London, Montreal, New York, Rome,Tokyo.
They have been commissioned by institutions such as Luxembourg Philharmonie, Vienna Konzerthaus, Netherlands Vocal Laboratorium, United Instruments of Lucilin, Quartet New Generation, KMVL.
Marcel Reuter has held teaching positions at the University of Music in Vienna (2002­-2007) and the Conservatoire du Nord in Luxembourg (since 2007). He has lectured at Music Academy Sarajevo, Musikhochschule Freiburg among others.

Evangelia Rigaki
Evangelia Rigaki (Greece *1980) has a diverse composition portfolio ranging from instrumental works to experimental music theatre, opera and dance.
Recent compositions of hers include the Arts Council commissioned opera ‘AntiMidas, or, Bankers in Hades’ (Beckett Theatre, December 2013, Dublin), the installation/ miniature operas ‘The Pregnant Box’ (Trinity College, University of Dublin, September 2014) and the object theatre piece ‘Monsieur Jean & Monsieur Jean’ (Lucilin Ensemble, CarréRotondes, April 2015).
In March 2014 she organized the International Composition Conference, ‘Composition in the 21st Century’. Evangelia is the Head of Composition Studies at Trinity College, University of Dublin where she is also the Director of The ‘Music Composition Centre’. She lives in Luxembourg and Dublin.
