Lucilin: Now! – Schnee
Lucilin performs Hans Abrahamsen’s enchanting piece
As part of the third edition of its Lucilin: Now! series, United Instruments of Lucilin continues to invest in the various spaces of the Philharmonie Luxembourg, showcasing the many facets of contemporary music. The concert on March 17 marks the second of three encounters in the new season.
Schnee by Hans Abrahamsen, a mesmerizing work, is as much inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen as by Johann Sebastian Bach. In the early 1990s, Abrahamsen arranged several of Bach’s canons, reinterpreting them so they could be repeated endlessly. This technique became the foundation of Schnee, where interwoven canons create a shimmering, icy texture – evoking the stillness and quiet motion of falling snow.
Schnee beckons the listener into a hypnotic, meditative space, where simplicity and complexity intertwine – revealing new details with every listening.
