HÉVA
Electro-lyrical science fiction opera; based on a composition by Labelle
In a future shaped by AI, humanoid robots serve humanity – until one, due to a flaw, discovers creativity. As self-awareness emerges, he develops thoughts and emotions, embarking on a transformative quest, striving for humanity in both form and recognition.
HÉVA is a bold new opera by composer Labelle and director Lucie Berelowitsch with United Instruments of Lucilin. Blending maloya rhythms with electronic and classical music, this sci-fi tale follows a robot’s battle for identity, rights, and mortality.
With a libretto by poet Hasawa, Berelowitsch, renowned for her visual storytelling and work with the Dakh Daughters, crafts an arresting production that explores the essence of consciousness, the power of creation, the boundaries between man and machine, and the right to choose one’s destiny.
Introduction by Ian De Toffoli 30 minutes before each performance (FR).
