Georges Aperghis

Georges Aperghis was born in Athens and has lived and worked in Paris since 1963. His work explores notably questions about language and meaning. His compositions, whether instrumental, vocal or for stage, explore the borders of the intelligible. He likes to create twisted paths which keep the listener active.

Aperghis works closely with groups of interpreters who are entirely part of the creative process. His music has been commissioned and performed by Symphonieorchester des BR, Klangforum Wien, Musikfabrik, Ictus, Ensemble Modern, SWR Vokalensemble among many others.

He has been awarded, among many other prizes, the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of the Venice Biennale Musica 2015, the BBVA Foundation Award and, most recently, the Ernst von Siemens Musikpreis in 2021.
